Welcome

The Welwyn Garden City Horticultural Society is a friendly, welcoming club for all gardeners: young, old, expert and beginner. We aim to promote and encourage the skill, knowledge and art of gardening through a wide range of activities, mainly consisting of speaker meetings and garden visits. We also try to provide help, information and advice to members through our newsletters, web site and contact between members.

The focal activity is the programme of monthly speaker meetings that are available to members for an annual subscription of £20, and open to guests and visitors for £5 on-the-door. In the spring and summer, visits to gardens and nurseries are arranged for members.

Manoj Malde –  A Designer’s Journey to Chelsea

A question that often gets asked is “How do you make the gardens look so established and mature, like they have been growing there for years”. This talk will highlight the entire back story of how a designer sets out designing and creating a garden for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Manoj will take you through the process of where his ideas began, the hurdles of finding a sponsor, the submission process to the RHS and the plans that need to be created, plant sourcing and building the show garden at the site and the infinite amount of detail and thought that goes into bringing a show garden together for the Chelsea Flower Show.
